Hello everyone! My name is Amy, and today is my first day of work experience here at Wolfstar. I am a first year student at Leeds Metropolitan University studying public relations.
I am from Belfast in Northern Ireland and although I miss home a lot I’m having a great time in Leeds. My decision to move to Leeds was quite sudden, with only six weeks between being offered a place on my course and moving day! I found out all I needed to know about Leeds through a friend who was already studying here, she had only good things to say and I haven’t been disappointed. My favourite thing about Leeds is the night life. With most of the clubs competing to be, “the best student night” there is no shortage of great places to go without breaking the bank! I’ve made great new friends and since moving away from home I feel very independent. When I am not at university or in a night club I enjoy shopping. To help myself feel better about eating rubbish and drinking too much I go swimming once a week.
I chose a degree in public relations because after studying marketing for a short time at home I realised I wanted to study a more specialised subject. I considered other areas such as advertising but after looking into each field in more detail I knew that I wanted to take up public relations.
My first semester at university left me with mixed feelings about my course. At times I wondered, “What has this got to do with PR?” Also, the prospect of being on work placement having only completed three months of my degree was frightening! Now into my second semester I am finding my modules a lot more interesting. I have had work experience at Square Foot, an online property magazine and am really looking forward to my time at Wolfstar.
