Tell us a little bit about yourself?
I’m 26, born and bred in Leeds and a very proud Yorkshire man.
I’ve been cursed with the football team of Newcastle United which has brought me minimal ups and pretty much constant downs since Alan Shearer retired and Mike Ashley bought the club. Although Rafa <3!
I studied Politics at Uni, and stumbled into PR by complete accident, and I’m really glad I did because I love it and I never really knew what I wanted to do.
I enjoy watching live music, cooking and spending time with my girlfriend, family and friends and can often be found posing ridiculously elaborate “would you rather style questions to the rest of the office.
What is your main role at Wolfstar/ What does a typical day look like?
Although this is going to sound ridiculously clichƒ©d there really is no such thing as a typical day in PR.
Most days will include writing content for various social media channels, drafting press releases and liaising with influencers to arrange collaborations. Creative meetings, coming up with new ideas and thinking of fresh ways we can get our clients noticed is all common place as well, and probably my favourite bit about the job.
For my main role, I would say that I have pretty much become the “go to for influencer outreach at Wolfstar and now do it for a number of clients.
What is your Best Moment in PR?
I don’t think I have one big standout career highlight yet, I’ve only been in PR for a really short time in the grand scheme of things.
I’ve had lots of little wins up to now though, I’ve helped send the highest level of traffic to a brand’s website, written social content that’s achieved record engagement and secured features with some really well-known influencers and publications.
Who would be your Dream Client?
I think someone who would let me have as much fun as possible and cause a bit of mischief.
We have seen the controversial strategies of Paddy Power, Poundland and Greggs etc. cause a real stir and get everyone talking. I would really like to work for a big brand who invites us in to ideas sessions with the proviso of “let’s cause a bit of mischief and get everyone talking about us.
I’d love to work with a foodie brand as well. Innocent Drinks would be high on my list, it seems to have nailed its brand messages, they have loads of fun and create incredible content. Or HECK food would also be good, I love its style and they have a fantastic product, I see a lot of potential there!
What’s an Interesting Fact or Special Talent about yourself?
I have a single transverse palmar crease (Google it) on my left hand which is only found in about 1.5% of the population. I always thought it was normal and that’s what everyone’s hands looked like, until my girlfriend pointed out it was “weird.
What would you be doing if you didn’t do PR?
When I was younger I wanted to be a professional Rugby (Union) player, unfortunately injuries put that dream to bed early on.
I studied Politics at university and went on to do a Masters in the subject, so I think if I wasn’t doing PR I would have gone down that avenue, maybe into the civil service first, before I really learned where my political allegiances lay.
It was only on placement during my Masters when working for a local MP that I discovered what PR really was, I had never considered it as a career before then, I enjoyed the writing aspect mainly and explored options when I graduated, and the rest is history!
