Only a matter of minutes, now. And then we’re off to the pub to celebrate another three-day weekend! But first, it’s Friday round-up time, folks!
So what’s made us look twice this past week?
UrTurn, a London-based startup that let’s you easily create and share ‘expressions’ (think memes) across your favourite social media platforms, just received $13.4 million in funding from a round of series A funding led by Balderton Capital. Essentially this means you can expect to see a lot more of this greatness:
Interesting move by Yahoo!, paying $1.1 billon for the blogging site. Apparently the two sites are “complementary”. Really? Naturally this has got Tumblr lovers worried as Yahoo! has a history of having a inverse Midas touch with companies that it buys… $3.7 billion for GeoCities in 1999? What about the resent revival of Flickr’s interface, after arguably nearly killing the photo-sharing site? The Tumblr site will be worth billions to Yahoo! in ad sales… but will Tumblr users seek other means of expressing themselves?
Facebooking, tweeting, pinning, and instagramming… from space! Do I need to explain why this excites me? Chris Hadfield (klout score of 87, almost 1m followers) takes brilliant pictures from an out of this world angle (get it?).
I think I’ll let this screenshot speak for itself…
